Govia Thameslink Railway Bike Donation
Every year, thousands of cycles are abandoned at railway stations across the country. Train station operators will try and reunite bikes with their owners. Still, normally they end up being removed and stored at central warehouses before finally being donated to charities for repair and resale, or scrapped.
As part of Riverside Meadows St Neots Eco School, Health School and Sustainable Transport push, Head Teacher Andrew Armstrong reached out to Jenny Saunders, Director of Operations and Customer Experience at Govia Thameslink Railways through Linked In.
The Letchworth Depot team, Karl, Patrick, Rovin, Ian and Neil were able to organise and donate over 25 cycles to the school for us to repair as part of our design and technology course, and start using them for both our Outdoor Education and Preparation for Adulthood lessons. Several of the team live close to the academy and didn’t realise we are here, but are certainly looking forward to seeing students out and about on their new cycles.
Within an hour of the cycles arriving, many of the students had requested that they start using them at break time and for regulation. Of course, we obliged and Claire Heseltine, Assistant Head Teacher, was on hand to snap some photographs!
